Theodora grew up in great poverty in an Eastern European village. As a ten-year-old, she is entrusted by her parents to an acquaintance. This acquaintance promises the parents to send Theodora to a school in Vienna. In return, she will occasionally help out with the housework. After the arrival in Vienna, this acquaintance "teaches" Theodora how to become a pick-pocket. Theodora has to deliver at least 350 Euros a day.
