Human trafficking: The sexual exploitation of women and girls is the most common form

What is a lover boy? What is a lover boy? A lover boy pretends to be very much in love with the woman, alienates her from her environment and eventually forces her to work the streets. Vera was born in an Eastern European village. Due to a difficult and abusive family situation, she lands in a youth shelter as a teenager. She is very unhappy at the youth shelter and frequently tries to run away. At the age of 19, she meets a much older man. After some time, this man persuades her to travel to Austria. He also promises her work. After they arrive in Vienna, he rents a room in a hotel, invites her to bars and buys her beautiful clothes and jewelry. Once his money is supposedly gone, he asks Vera to go to work. He brings her to a friend at the Viennese Prater and forces her - even with violence - to work the streets. Vera gives in to the demands of her "friend", who is now her pimp.

What is the situation in Austria?

✗ In Austria, women who are forced into prostitution are often victims of human trafficking.
✗ Escape is rarely a possibility.
✗ Their passports have been taken away from them. They are under constant surveillance. They are exposed to violence and threats.
✗ In addition, they are often illegally in the country. In most cases, this prevents them from asking the police for help.
