What does Austria do against human trafficking?

All government agencies and NGOs work closely together in Austria and on an international level to prevent human trafficking.

In Austria there is a task force on combating human trafficking. All the relevant ministries and NGOs are involved in this working group.

Objectives of the Task Force Human Trafficking:

✗ Awareness raising: panel discussions, exhibitions and campaigns.
✗ The Austrian government supports organizations that help victims of human trafficking.
✗ Within the scope of development cooperation, Austria promotes, for example, career training for women and girls in South-East Europe.
✗ Austria is involved in international projects.
The Austrian Criminal Code (art. 104a StGB): Offenders or perpetrators who can be brought to court await a prison sentence of up to 10 years in Austria. All measures to combat this crime are contained in the Austrian National Action Plan against Human Trafficking: prevention, victim protection, prosecution and international cooperation.
